New Name, New Look, Same Mission

Welcome to the new Design With Us! If you’ve followed us through the years, Born Just Right is now operating under a new name!

Why?

Mostly because our organization was ready to grow up. Born Just Right originated as a blog I started writing when Jordan was born in 2005. When she had a chance to speak nationally about disability and design, we collaborated to turn Born Just Right into a nonprofit. Fast forward a couple of years after that and Born Just Right also became a book. Not only is Born Just Right a book, but it’s also Jordan’s life story through elementary school. An organization and a book with the same name is a lot, especially when that book isn’t about the organization. It’s about one of the founders.

Now it’s 2021 and not only has Jordan grown up a lot, so has our organization. Born Just Right is forever our origin story. But Design With Us helps our organization focus on creating opportunities for disabled kids to learn to design and give a lot of people and organizations an opportunity to design WITH them.

This is also a great moment to restart. We are looking for new partners and sponsors for in-person events starting in Summer 2022. We are also looking for new education partners to collaborate on hybrid learning experiences using our virtual workshop tools. We have learned over this pandemic that learning design is possible over Zoom but a combination of digital and in-person learning is even better!

I’d love to meet with anyone interested in collaborating with Design With Us! Feel free to send me an email.

And if you’re new, check out my note to grown-ups or if you don’t consider yourself a grown-up, check out our note to young people.

Also, we are committed to making this an accessible site, and we’re continuing to work toward that. We’re overhauling a few things and we will continue to tweak and experiment to get closer to where we need to be. Being a part of the disability community has taught us so much, and we’re continuing to grow and learn. Not only do we hope you’ll design with us, but we hope you’ll learn with us, too. Please submit your input if you identify an accessibility issue on this website so we can fix it!
